Ombak reclaim our teak from many sources – houses, bridges, harbours, government buildings, general construction and railway sleepers. All the wood is many years old, and with every piece of Ombak furniture that you buy you really are embracing a piece of history. Some of the reclaimed teak used by Ombak is over 100years old! The signs of the past life are what make Ombak products so special. They are intrinsic to the ethos of Ombak.
All Ombak furniture should be dusted with a damp lint-free cloth when you receive it, there may be dust from the workshop or transport.
Ombak products are supplied raw. There is no finish applied, the goods are super-smooth sanded then the surface is glass rubbed. Teak is a dense, oily hardwood and the glass rubbing agitates this oil and provides a stunning subtle sheen. The only finish Ombak recommend is to oil our dining table tops as they will be exposed to food spillages. Any oil would suffice, although Ombak recommend Antique Oil.
